Click the links, there are some "hot spots" found by other propilkki 2 players.

Smelt is usually found near by these places. The river at the left side of the lake might also be worth of trying.

Hi and than you for a great game. Know we are a lot of ppl here in Sweden that likes to play your game. But I have a question. When will you give us a new rod with a line that can catch some bigger fishes? When I play that map with 4 lakes and takes a walk to the lake down right I lose all my lures all the time. Quite boring to restart the game after 10 minutes because I don't have any lures left :)

Hi Jamo! We have no plans for new rod yet, so it is quite clear that it is not available in our forthcoming release (0.4). The next release will contain short tournaments -game type and maybe some new lures and fish species. In future there will be more rods, like mormyska-rod and rod for these balancing-type -lures (you  know these rapala-like things). There will be also (in campaign mode) kind of "skilling system", but it will be released after about 1-2 years.

Hey, thanks for a GREAT game. Were having a competition on one of the biggest fishing sites in Norway going on, alot of fun when the ice is not on the water yet. I ave some questions though. When will career mode be avalible? And when will the online edition be released?

Anyone got a hint about where to find big pikes. Lake, season and so on. Just getting small ones. :(

Hi Mikko,

Please add "System requirements" to the FAQ section. Some people have old hardware and they must be sure they can run PP2 before downloading.

We are not sure, what is the lowest requirement for the game. We know only that 3d-graphics adapter (and drivers) & DirectX7 or newer -are needed. And then the game needs about 50mb hard disk space for the installation and works only by using windows as an operating system. Memory and processor requirements are very difficult to estimate, because different operating systems and virus/firewall softwares may slow down also newer and faster computers. Karib has been playing with quite old&slow computer, but it might run also in older&slower ones.

For example, Diablo 2 mimimun requirement are 233mhz & 32mb ram.. And I have tried it with 200MMX & 32mb ram, it worked but VERY slowly. Voices and movements very not synchronized at all. Framerate was 1 picture in 1-2 seconds when fighting against Andariel. I am sure, that updating processor to 233mhz wouldnt have any effect.

So, we do not want to publish "system requirements" but maybe some recommendations could be presented. We have to think about them..

Any ideas about when the next verion will be released?

Hopefully in the next spring 2007.

Cup-game, extra-species and 1-3 new lakes needs to be finished and beta-tested. It will take some time, but we TRY to release new version during spring. Maybe end of the march or beginning of april.

Mikko, in release notes you said that in future you will include to pp2 all species (or almost all) which could be caught in Finland in wintertime. Can you write down a list of that fishes for the foreigners like me? I think it should be interesting... Latin names will be enough.

Fixing the problem:   Buy 3d graphics adapter, if you already have it, install drivers for the hardware. Or if you have done also that, then check out that your mainboards drivers are installed.

Lastly, check that you have DirectX 7 or newer.

Is there any function, that effects the fishing places???

I'm fishing now in Saarijärvi at the same place i did yesterday, but there are'nt as much as fish the day before???

Lots of different things has many many many effects for the fish behaviour.. They used to move a lot, but fishes usually are nearby "hot spots". You have to drill a lot to find them.. or just wait that they find you.

You have to beat the easy cup first. After that, you should be able to switch it on medium. Beat it on medium and you have the hard cup! I guess.

It says, that our team is having summer holidays currently. Next version might be finished at late autumn to early winter (oct-nov).

There will be network game added to the game in the next release. It will work via internet, but you have to know IP-address of the host.

Hard to say.. Lets have a try.. october - november.. maybe.  There is also possibility, that we first launch patch 0.41 before 0.5.  In 0.5 you will have LAN-game, which also allows you to play via internet, if someone creates a host - server (and other joins into that game).

I have some idea.. Download statistics show the most usual countries (1. Finland 2. Estonia 3. Sweden 4.Latvia 5. Norway 6. Russia). There is also huge amount of players, who downloads it somewhere else. Russians seems to have their own mirrors, so these are not included into our statistics. I know, that there is also some sort of "fan-culture" in Ukraine, Germany, Switzerland and Canada. We have also received fan-mails from Spain to Brazil, so it is not limited only for snow-areas of the world.

The most funniest stories are these, where working places are "infected" by propilkki (no-one does his jobs, just playing propilkki) :)

Ok. I paste here same message, which I wrote to fiskesnack.com. It may help you.

Some things to check:
-Give access for Propilkki.exe to internet (or was it pp2.exe ?) (So allow it from your firewall, check "remember me", if you dont want to do this always).

-Check that used IP-address is correct. HOst MUST check his IP (i.e. here http://showip.net/ ). Host must tell to other players his IP address and others must use EXACTLY that given address.

- If someone has problems in hosting, let others try it.

- If computer is part of intranet (one IP address to internet, many routes to intra-IPs)., there is need to create a rule for traffic to your modem. For example, Zyxel Prestige 660 series needs to be customized for that.

Shortly, how to custom your modem (zyxel)
1) log in to your modem
2) go to NAT (SUA only, edit details)
3) create start 4500 (port), and end (4500) and then your intranet IP

after that..

4) go to your MODEMs firewall menu (still logged in)
5) Then to rule summary and modify it by creating a new rule. Setting might be something like this (I cant remember these exactly, but it is not so hard to have pp2 work as a host)

LAN to LAN (not sure about that, if this did not work, change it to something else)
Active (check)
Direction= FORWARD
Source ja destination address = any
Available services = Here you must create this propilkki2.exe rule, name it like you want it
TCP packages needs to be allowed (UDP not needed)
Time settings, let it be anytime

And then apply..

It should work after that.

Is it just me or is the new version harder, i´ve been playing 4 15 minute games now i just got like 3 ruffe, its crazy?!

The winner in these competitions hav had weights between 3-7000g

Whats going on?

If you lose five lures in one hole, is it then the same fish who is taking them all? Hard to belive i encounter five THAT big fishes in 10 minutes, in the same hole..(?) How abaut that procyon?

I am 95% sure, that there have been many big bastards cutting your line. If one fish cut your line, it will immediately stop eating (for a while). During 10min game, it is possible that the same fish have bitten twice (but not three-times?). I am not sure about these temporal things (exact times), Janne has set them into the game.

Til calle; fisk på dypet eller langs brattkant med balanse rød/blank f.eks i nedre vannet i Niemesjærvet. Dette burde gi fisk  8-)
In english: to calle, fish in the deep areas in the lower lake, with a balanse-lure in red/silver.This should give big fishes.

It is possible in version 0.5. If you are using older version, it is impossible. Then update your pp2 to 0.5 version.

I got that version, what i ment were where to right click to do it. Should i click in the window where the rod is, or on the icon wiht the rod?

Yes, maximum number of players is 20 per one host. Big quantity of players may cause graphics delay or even crash. If you want to make a tournament or cup, provide that all participants are divided into group of 20 persons max. Ideal quantity is 10-12 players, more players - more lags etc.

I think it will be realy usful feature if we can run game exe with some keys and authost start automatic when the start game.
For example: 'Propilkki2.exe -auto'. We can write a simple script, and after server reboot the autohost game start.

Hi all! Thank you for the great game. I'm from Greece and i'm trying to find a way throught this forum. I'm not sure if I am writting at the right post. Everything is in Suomi language and it's Greek to me!!
Anyway, I would like to ask if there is any fishing guide for this game. What lures to use for what fish, fishing strategy (are we moving the rod, up-down, right-left?) e.t.c. I have no real expierience in lake fishing, I use to fish at the sea. So if you can give me some tips would be very helpfull to me.

Hmm.. Actually not in english, but finnish guide is available. Sorry, but I have no time to translate it.

..and you can choose english from settings of your profile. Just select profile (upper bar) and then under "muokkaa profiilia" is "perusasetukset" (basic settings). Choose it and select english.

We have +4 C here in Finland now. Ices are weak and only "boneheads" are icefishing. We havent got real winter at this year at all.

Yes, you are right, it is Siberia.
Ices are very strong here, especially in spring, when the height of the ice is about 80 centimeters  :-o
It is very difficult to drill many holes.

Little bit off-topic, but..

Normally we have also here 60-80cm (or even more) ice in March. Now there have been 2 poor winters in a row. Only dark, rain and thing called "räntä" (very wet snow).

Is there any limit of players in multiplayer game? I've heard about 20 players. Is that true?

20 is limit now, in future (after some graphics optimizations) there might be more.. about 30-40, even 50. 50 players need a huge map to play!

Hello everyone I am a dedicated fisherman in the US and I love to ice fish. I came across this game and thought I would try it. I have downloaded the installer but I cannot get it to install. I have shutdown my firewalls and everything else I can think of but when I double click the installer internet explorer pops up for a moment then dissapears. It then asks me if I would like to open, save, or cancel I have tried if I click open it opens internet explorer again for a second and then closes it and repeats. Can anyone help me? I would love to play.

Is the downloaded file .rar -ended ? If so, then unrar with using i.e. winrar -software. Then install it normally.

also, we dont usually have so much lures... just worm like things... i don't know in english... the babies of the mosquitos. Usually you can buy them in a fish store for fish.

and some home made metal lures...

So how it works... you fish with the usual fishing rod for some time to catch small fish. then you drill lots of holes in deeper water and set up these green things. We make them ourselves. Then you wait for the big fish to catch the bait. You can fish with the fishing rod nearby.

There are lots of speaking at weighting zone.. some of these are hard to translate (i cant even remember what they say).

But when fishing... "sopivan mittasta, sopivan mittasta"...  it is something like "correct size, nice sized" etc..  kind of monologue of a player.

And the other one is "potkii se onni näköjään köyhääkin".. it is something like "it seems like stroke of luck hits also the poor ones".. these are "spoken language" and sayings/phrases, so therefore I find them hard to translate.

If someone has better translations, please go ahead :)   Was there more of these phrases available? I mostly play without sounds, so I cant remember..

We are not sure yet. We WILL release it during "winter months" (incl. spring months), but then we need to leave some planned updates/features out of it. TIme is running too short. Some new features have been much more complicated to create than we thought. We are not yet even in beta-testing part of "release-cycle".

one question: if host has version 0.6 and other players 0.7 then is it possible to get into the host? + Does the version 0.7 take effect with this system? I mean those anti hot spots and everything else that is new Or does the system still work on version 0.6? We have finale in EST on 15.01 and by this time there will be new version already released (I guess) so this answer to "one" question would be good.   :-D

0.7 and 0.6 versions will not work together. I highly recommend all of users to update their games to the latest version, as soon as possible (after the release).

1) Thanks for the great game!  I play it for like 3 months and I'm quite addicted to it :)

2) I wanted to talk about 2 things in ProPilkki (0.8).

a) haven't you ever thought about possibility to end the game before time is out without losing result? For example I have a 2 hour game and after 1,5 hours I have to go. If I close the game, I can't see results of bots. But imagine a feature when I end the game, it simulates fishing for bots for remaining time. Something similar is included in Short Cup so probably it isn't that hard to make some modifications in future versions.
The only disadvantage of this is that "exploring" is possible - looking at results in different seasons to see, when should I catch special fish. Maybe the results could be shown as weight only without more possibilities - you don't see how much zanders or pikes ar caught.

b) About fishing in different depths. If i get a greater fish on hook and my lure was deep enough, fish usually some times goes up and down but not deeper than point where it was caught. If I get big fish just a bit under ice, it doesn't go deeper even if it's big enough. Any comments on this?

Sorry if it's discussed earlier, I was too lazy to read all thread.

By the way, could AI of bots improved in one case?
Example: Vuontele, 1st start spot, 10 minute game.

Bots usually run in south direction for like 3 minutes, catch fish about 2 minutes and then run back. It's obvious that they can't get anything in such short time. I understand that bots choose their fishing spots depending on season, weather and so on but maybe they should be limited if time is so short?
