How to run server?
« on: January 03, 2008, 19:47:06 »
I found this game yesterday and me and my friends have played it all day long, I've tried to set up an online server but I can't click on the Internet game-button. What's wrong?

What do I'll have to do for playing the game online? :)

I've got the 0.55-version but it doesn't work, should I try another one?

I'll try to reinstall the game, it's pretty weird..

Edit; If I take "create network game" instead of Internet game, would it work? Which ports should I open in my router?

Port is 4500.

Find your IP and share it to your friends.. or join into your friends game (use his/her IP).

Hello!
I'd try to run server once time. But clients have a lot of lag's, when more then 2 players connected. When connected 2 players and one or more bots, clients have a lag too. On server there are no lags anytime. What can a problem be in?
What a recomended system requirements for the host game?
I have a Celeron 2Ghz, 512RAM, IDE HDD.

What type of connection you have? Is it possible, that anti-virus softwares will be too sensitive (online scanning), and therefore slows all programs etc ?

Connection >1Gb/s :-P I'd try to start dedicated server in provider.
I test it also in local network, computer <- -> computer, ping packet size 1500byte <1ms, antivirus software, firewalls ets. not running, when only 2 players - all good, but when 2 players and one ore more bots - greatest lag at the player, on host no lag. Only one player and 19 bots - no problem. I test Maybe i have any problem with hardware :|
Does my configuration (2Ghz, 512RAM, IDE HDD), is enough to run host game?

Your configuration is not a problem. It is enough, I have tried pp2 with my 200MX (32mb) and it worked (slowly, but worked).

Sounds weird.

Some details are needed: how exactly is that lag occuring?
Jumpy players? Slow chat? Slow graphics?

You could try to see the ping values inside the game, when everything is OK and then when the lagging is in it's worst.
Host can see the ping-values during the game, by hitting "Esc" to go to "pause"-menu and there in the right down corner is "Players..".
By clicking the player-names, it is showing details including also ping-value for selected player. Are the ping values shown by the game bigger when the "lagging" is bad?

Another thing is that I don't know how much people are using bots in network game. I haven't heard so much about it, so maybe there is a real problem with that. Does anyone have more experience with bots and network game?

Each bot causes on average 100 bytes data transfer/minute, so it's quite hard to beleave that it would cause network problems..

General lag: player coudn't move and somtimes client crash.

Yes, i see the client ping, when begins a total lag - ping increases to a incredible values, over 20000. When one player is in the game, the ping value in normal state.

No only when plays with bots. When 1 host and 2 players the lag will appear too.

It's really sounds weird. I install to server win98, and all works fine! Reinstall another subversion of WinXP - lag...

It's don't show IP adress of the players when host start under the win98. So, ban function don't work.
Maybe it's not actually, because the win98 isn't a popullary OS now :-D
